| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Stunning! (05 December 2008)This is an absolute must have collectors piece for any Harry Potter fan. The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Collector's Edition is strikingly beautiful. The craftsmanship amazing. You will not be disappointed. This gorgeous item of potterbilia is well worth the price. Wow! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm sure it's a great book but whoever thought of the packaging should be fired. (05 December 2008)I see that others had made the same comments, but I had to write this anyway... I ordered this to be a Christmas gift for my girlfriend and it arrived in bright red packaging that reads: "Attention Muggles! Do not deliver or open before December 4!" And the side says "Tales of Beedle the Bard." Of course, she was the one who signed for the package, effectively ruining the one gift I could afford to buy her. I emailed Amazon to complain and suggested they change the packaging ASAP. I received a response that basically said "we're sorry for the condition your package arrived in. In the future, if you don't want the contents printed on the shipping box, mark it as a gift". Real nice way of trying to place the blame on me. If it was stated anywhere on the product page that this was shipped in special packaging I would have marked it as a gift purchase (although from other reviews it seems that that wouldn't of mattered). I'm not saying to not buy the book. I'm sure it's great. All I'm saying is that if this is a gift have it shipped to a friend's house lest you wind up with nothing to surprise your loved one with on Christmas. Thanks a lot Amazon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not a $100 worth product (05 December 2008)I have waited 4 months for this book and knowing it is the most special piece in my HP collection. Yet, when I open the package in a very careful manner, I found the book itself not really as beautiful as I imagined. It just does not surprise me or give me a little "OMG" moment. I loved this book but if you ask me is it worth the money, I say not really. It is just not as beautifully decorated as I thought it would be.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In a word - STUNNING (05 December 2008)Admittedly as the time neared and having ordered multiple copies I was having trepidation about what I might end up with. Let me just say, I no longer feel that way. The packing box itself is collectible, warning Muggles to not distribute this before Dec 4th. That was a nice beginning to the opening of this gem. As others have said, the packaging is phenomenal and when I slid the main box out of its protective cover I gave a gasp - it is a thing of beauty. Alone it is truly one of the all-time great book boxes (I collect them). I was worried it was going to be vinyl but not it looks like a real, old Hogwarts book. They did themselves proud with that. Then I opened the box which I found very well made and gave another gasp - there was a beautiful velvet interior with the pouch and the prints. I took out the pouch and brought out the tome and gave my 3rd gasp - it is a thing of terrifying beauty. All in all, a very high quality presentation and surely to end up a valued treasure in anyone's library, certainly mine. Bravo Amazon! Thank you for replicating your amazing purchase and thank you for making it truly legendary. Bravo! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Amazing presentation, richness everywhere, high quality collectible (05 December 2008)Amazon exceeded my expectations with this presentation. I have yet to read the stories themselves but I am sure they will be charming and well done. If you are considering getting this you want to know about the presentation and extras. The outer textbook is very well done. It looks and feels like leather and has engraved lettering which adds to the sense of richness and substance. The velvet bag is well a nice velvet bag with J.K.'s signature embroidered in gold thread. The book itself I have a hard time telling apart from the pictures of the original. It feels fantastic to hold in your hand. The clasp is great, the binding is superb. The skull looks aged and you feel like you could have an original 15th century printing of the tales. My only gripe is that they had to put the publication information inside. The presentation feels like you have an original who knows how old book and then you see the ISBN number and copyright information. Wish they could have left that out but really a small trifle. The illustrations are simple and quaint. Printed on nice quality paper and in a nice envelope which has a place on the inside cover of the faux book. I really doubt I will be framing them any time soon but certainly a most welcome addition to the book. If you like folk art though, perhaps you would. J.K.'s introduction is warm and heartfelt. Like the rest it just adds to the pleasure. Any Harry Potter fan would treasure this edition. My guess is at 100,000 copies they will never command a premium price. I collected LOTR high end collectibles and 100,000 is a huge edition size, however as a fund-raiser kudos for Amazon making it this size. Given the quality, even with the edition size, I do not think they are ever going to drop in price either | ![]() |
