Customer Reviews:

  Awesome (01 May 2010)
Outstanding read. The book had me from the start and it showed the unconditional dedication to duty by the rescue force and Mr. Fields himself.

Excellent story of survival (06 December 2009)
An excellent story of survival in war. The author has done a remarkable job of taking one man's experience and combining it with the experiences of all other individuals involved in the rescue to create a real time narrative of what was happening during his 40 hours evading capture in the jungles of Laos. During the Vietnam war I served at the same base that was instrumental in affecting his rescue, though I was there two years after. This book brought back many memories and accurately reflects the thoughts and selfless actions of the brave pilots and other servicemen who served during the Vietnam conflict.

The Rescue of Streetcar 304 (30 July 2009)
This book is really grabbing. It is reality at its' best and will keep the reader on edge throughout. We don't get a chance to hear about the REAL situations that our military people have to deal with very often. It shows the real care that our military families have for each other and how the U.S. places its' fighting brothers first.

Incredible recall of a harrowing experience (07 April 2009)
Having been a Navy pilot, flying the AD-5N Skyraider (known as the A-1G during the Viet Nam era) I felt like I was one of the "Sandy" pilots desperately trying to help Streetcar 304 out of his scary mess! I was truly impressed with not only the thorough research Kenny did before writing the book, but his incredible recall of all the experiences and especially the personal reactions, feelings and sensations during his ordeal, moment by frightening moment. A great read!

This book will be remembered as a nonfiction classic of the Vietnam War! (26 February 2009)

When reading The Rescue of Streetcar 304 by Kenny Wayne Fields, there is the sense that he is tracking to some source as he tells his story; and that you are progressing with him to a more complete understanding of not only a Navy pilots forty hours on the run in Laos, but of the author's core character, and things demonstrated by his brothers-in-arms, like courage under fire, and honoring one's commitments in the face of adversity. This is a truly outstanding book, a authentic tale told by a unique, one-of-a-kind writer. I think this book will be remembered as one of the nonfiction classics of the Vietnam War.
