Wonderful Suspense! Great read! (01 September 2010)
I read this book on my kindle last month.

What a great book!

Suspenseful and exciting from page one all the way through to the end. I found myself loving the characters as their expressions of faith were laid out on the pages. Two sisters are set to inherit the family-run halfway house when their parents were murdered disagree over whether to buy or sell. The halfway house inhabitants are fair game in the murder investigation. Because they are down on their luck or just out of prison - each of them is questioned and suspected even though they have made a full profession of faith in Christ and they have paid their respective debts to society.

While the accusations fly, the City Council moves to close down the halfway house, claiming it is a menace to the community.

A great suspense-filled book as the sisters take the City Council to task.

Surprises throughout the book will keep you reading all the way to the end - which leads you to the next book in the Series.

Cape Refuge

Great Series Beginning (04 July 2010)
I'm one that took this as a "freebie" a few months ago, and I'm just now getting to it, and boy, am I glad I did! I wish I hadn't waited so long to get started The book was great; I'm new to reading the Christian genre, but found this to be a very good read. There was a plot line, very interesting characters that you actually got to "know," and yes, there was religion. For some it may be too much, and for others, maybe not enough. For me, it was just the right amount, and I'm eagerly starting book 2 of this series after I finish typing!

I only wish that more time had been taken in developing the characters that were murdered within the first few pages, but they were intricately interwoven throughout the entire book, which did help to get to know them, but once you did, you almost felt bad that you didn't get to know them before tragedy struck.

Ms. Blackstock writes a good book; I just finished reading book 1 from the Newpointe 911 series, and was quite pleased to find that I had 2 other Kindle books by this author. While I'd love to read each book in squence, from each of her series, I find the pricing to be a little high, and I'm not willing to pay upwards of $10 for an author that to me is still relatively unknown. I see that a great many are familiar with Ms. Blackstock's books, but for me she's new, untested and right now, not worth the higher cost of the books.

I have to get back to Southern Storm, book 2 in the Cape Refuge series, but I wanted to put my 2 cents in on book 1, and I can say again, it was a great read, and certainly a "keeper," that I may get back to and re-read in a year or so, I enjoyed it that much. Thank you for reading my review.

Hey, folks, this IS Christian fiction from a Christian publishing house... (24 May 2010)
Most of the negative reviews are criticizing this book because of the religious aspects. That makes as much sense as criticizing a horror novel because it's scary. True, this is also a mystery novel and I found it rewarding as such. Terri Blackstock is good at arousing sympathy for some of her characters so that one is quite involved with their trials and tribulations, and also fearful when said characters are imperiled.

  So-So Suspense (17 May 2010)
I had no prior knowledge of this author, and downloaded the book for free onto my Kindle. The plot was slow moving to start and I had a hard time staying focused. About 1/3 of the way into the book I started becoming more interested in the plot. It was entertaining, but I did find that after a while I started skimming through the Christian angst of the characters to get to the next plot twist/turn. I didn't find the ending all that surprising and by the time I got to the "big reveal", it was a bit anti-climatic for me. However, it was a good read for a while and I am mildly interested in some of the characters. I will not add this series to my "top shelf", but on a cold winter's night I might be willing to read the next book in the series for entertainment. All in all it was a so-so suspense novel, but it did not leave me desperate for another look into the lives of the residents at Cape Refuge.

Nice new discovery for me (02 May 2010)
This was a great read and a nice new discovery for me. I had never heard of the book or the author, but decided to give it a try. It was a great story, well written and based on good solid Christian theology. I will read other books by this author.
